Moffet / Whisman Road Neighborhood, Mountain View, California

The Whisman vicinity offers both newly built townhouses and single family dwellings built during the post WWII era. Although separated from Downtown by Central Expressway, the look and feel of recently built community developments is appealing as they are relatively close to the heart of Mountain View, provide modern amenities, and offer the conveniences of Home Owners Associations. Just south of the Moffet area, expansive fields of strawberries once grew. Street side single family bungalows now occupy this region to the east of nearby Stevens Creek. A feature of the Whisman area, the Stevens Creek paved trail way is pedestrian and bicyclist friendly. One of the oldest historic homes in Mountain View, Ada Avenue Farm House (1900c) is a nostalgic taste of the past and features geometrically patterned shingling and a high angular front gable. Nearby Moffet Field is the site of the NASA Ames Research Center. During the Cold War pilots participated in flight practice in preparation for overseas drills. Nearby the locomotives passed through loaded with cargo supplies.
