Redwood City
Redwood City is the county seat of San Mateo County. Incorporated in 1868, the area has grown from a small port used mainly to ship lumber and food to San Francisco into city of over 79,000. The city’s motto is: “Climate Best, By Government Test.” This assertion is based on a government study that placed Redwood City at the center of a climate tied for best in the world. It shared this distinction with the Canary Islands and the Mediteranian coast in North Africa. While this motto was first used in 1925, it is still quite fitting today.
Besides a beautiful climate, Redwood City boasts a rejuvinated downtown shopping district, complete with a new 20 screen movie theater, as well as new shops and restaurants. The city also contains numerous parks and outdoor spaces. Located along the San Francisco Bay is Redwood Shores which is home to numerous trails, ideal for bird watching and jogging, it has become one of the most popular recreational facilities on the peninsula.
